Many of us are adjusting to a new normal due to coronavirus (COVID-19). Whether you usually work from home or you just started, sticking to a schedule is key.
It can help you:
Plus, having a schedule each day helps the people around you. When you let your coworkers know when you’re available, you set expectations and build trust.
Have kids or partners at home? Align their schedules with yours. They’ll know when to keep busy and give you some space. Then you can spend more quality time together when you’re off the clock.
Here are 7 tips to help you make and stick to a schedule when working from home:
It’s best to over-communicate when working from home. Minimize distractions by letting coworkers, family and friends know when you’re busy and when you’re free to chat.
Chatting with friends or coworkers is just as important when working from home. Schedule a few social meetings throughout the week by phone or video conference call.
Wake up at the same time, get dressed and “arrive” to work on time. If you have extra time, try a short walk or daily meditation to kick off the day centered and ready to work.
Set regular reminders on your phone or work calendar to hydrate and move around. You can also stretch, try a short breathing exercise or take a quick walk for a healthy break.
Start a mini ritual to unwind at the end of the day. Turn off your computer or other devices, cross things off your to-do list, tidy your work area and finally — step away from your workspace.
What went well last week? Did you have enough time for your healthy habits? Make sure the schedule you set supports your needs. Don’t be afraid to make changes.
What do you have to accomplish next week? Block out time for important projects and go into Monday with a clear head.
